Do your energy and motivation go down with the leaves in the fall? Practical solutions for the winter blues

Hi Reader

The snow is officially here in Alberta. ❄️

Depending on where you live, you may be experiencing a warm and beautiful fall, but things get really chilly really quickly here in the Canadian tundra.

And the season can impact how we feel big time.

Do you feel your energy take a hit as soon as the days shorten and the temperatures drop?

Do you find it hard to find motivation in the winter?

Are you noticing that your mood varies a lot with the season? Down in the winter, happier in the spring?

If yes, there is nothing wrong with you friend! You are simply human and as such, your body was created to respond to daylight.

With the fall and winter season, your circadian rhythm follows the light, and we are programmed to slow down and enter a season of rest.

So this is not a problem to solve but a rhythm to embrace.

The carb cravings are not bad, as long as you meet them with healthy carbs.

But I want you to be aware of this seasonal low, so you know how to meet it!

That's why I had my friend Lori Owens back on the show this week.

Winter blues can be full blown depression (called clinical seasonal affective disorder) for 2–3% of Canadians and 5% of US adults.

About 15% of Canadians and 10–20% of Americans will have at least a milder form (winter blues) in their lifetime.

Whether you feel significantly different in the winter or not, you will want to hear the very practical tips Lori Owens shares in this episode.

We talk about:

- The difference between Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) and winter blues

- How to manage it

- Healthy food swaps to meet those winter carbs cravings

- Why we need to prioritize sleep

- How to find the balance between maintaining connection with others and the fatigue from social events at the end of the year

And more!

You better grab a notebook and pen because Lori does not hold back on very actionable tips in this conversation!

And Reader, if you asked yourself "Which ones are the healthy carbs?" or you would like to learn, like one of my clients recently "When is it okay to have something sweet?", come hang out with me in a Healthy Meals coaching call.

In one hour I will help you create a simple plan so you can start eating well consistently, including a strategy to limit and manage the cravings.

What if you could stop thinking about food as "good" or "bad" and find comfort and satisfaction in the foods that nourish your body?

I help you do that. The first step is here:

PS: There is often something deeper than we think hiding under the cravings. Something you may not uncover until we have a chat...
If this is a repeating pattern for you, there's a good chance it's there. It won't go until we pull it out.

Love you.
Jihane.
